CIVIC TREES
Program Elements
Planting Trees in Public Spaces
We partner with municipalities to aid with funding and executing climate-resilient tree plantings in public spaces that community members frequent the most. We prioritize areas that experince urban heat islands and areas with vulnerable populations.
City Ordinance Advocacy & Advising
We advocate for greater investments in our urban canopy at the municipal level and assist city governments with urban forestry master plans. This includes prioritizing planting trees that provide the greatest human health and ecosystem services benefits.
Community Enagagement
We strive to not only educate and mobilize our own staff and paid interns, but our whole community to expand the impact we have beyond our own capacity. We invite our community members to join us in the field to learn tree care and planting basics. We also encourage them to enagage with their local municipality to provide feedback and advocate for their own neighborhood's needs.
Workforce Development
We provide hands-on training and education for both students and paid interns from our community to expand the green industry workforce. Our team prioritizes engaging part-time, paid positions to assist will all aspects of the work we do.
Tree Care Assistance
We assist municipalities with limited budgets and personelle in maintenancing their existing trees. Essential maintenance includes structural pruning, mulching, fertilizing, and irrigating. This prolongs the life of the tree and allows it to achieve the maximum benefits trees provide.
