• Trees For All

The Trees for All Oregonians Program is a collaborative project led by OUR Community Forestry in partnership with Plant Oregon Nursery. The initiative addresses environmental justice, climate adaptation, and community empowerment by ensuring underserved areas benefit from increased urban canopy coverage.

  • What?

The Trees For All Program is committed to increasing the number of climate-resilient trees, with a focus on expanding nurseries, supporting workforce development, building community partnerships, and promoting education. The program aims to address the shortage of diverse, climate-adapted tree species by expanding nursery capacity and reducing financial risks for rural growers.

A key objective is to grow and plant 4,000 trees in disadvantaged communities through collaborations with local organizations. The grant also supports workforce development by providing internships and job opportunities for individuals interested in urban forestry careers. Additionally, OUR Community Forestry will host virtual workshops to educate community members on tree care and the environmental and social benefits of urban forestry.

    Why It Matters

By addressing the critical need for climate-resilient trees, the Trees for All Oregonians Initiative fosters environmental, social, and economic benefits. Trees improve air quality, reduce energy costs, and support mental well-being by creating calming green spaces. They also combat climate change through carbon sequestration and storm water management, making communities safer and more resilient.

    Who Is Eligible?

Because the focus of this program is to expand canopy in underserved communities, trees must be planted within the Disadvantaged Census Block Groups provided by Oregon Department of Forestry. View the map of eligible planting locations here.

    Who to Thank

Funds are provided by the Oregon Department of Forestry's Urban and Community Forestry Program from the 2024 Growing Equity in Oregon’s Urban and Community Forests Project. The Federal Assistance Listing Number is 10.727, and the Federal Program is named the IRA Urban & Community Forestry Program. The federal award is through the USDA Forest Service.

  • Program Elements

    Tree Cultivation and Distribution

The initiative supports the growth of 4,000 climate-resilient trees at Plant Oregon’s nursery. These trees are specially selected for their adaptability to Oregon’s ecosystems. Once mature, they are distributed to nonprofits, municipalities, and community organizations at subsidized rates or free of charge, ensuring equitable access.

    Workforce Development

Through internships, training programs, and partnerships with local organizations, the initiative supports job creation in urban forestry and nursery management. Interns gain hands-on experience in tree cultivation, environmental stewardship, and green industry careers.

    Environmental Justice &

    Urban Canopy Expansion

The program targets communities disproportionately affected by climate change, including those mapped by the EPA IRA Disadvantaged Communities Mapping Tool. Trees are planted in parks, school campuses, public spaces, and urban neighborhoods, helping to reduce heat islands and improve air quality.

    Community Engagement & Education

Workshops, educational events, and volunteer opportunities empower residents to care for trees and advocate for environmental justice. Community partners commit to a three-year stewardship agreement, ensuring long-term tree health and maintenance.
