      • Our Mission, Vision, and Values

Our mission is to restore, protect, and expand urban tree canopy, ensuring equitable access to the critical environmental, economic, and human-health benefits that healthy urban forests provide while developing a skilled, diverse workforce prepared to steward those resources.

      • Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion

At OURCF, we recognize that rural and underserved communities often face unique challenges when it comes to accessing the benefits of urban forestry. Limited resources, inadequate green spaces, and a lack of educational opportunities about tree care and management can create disparities that affect these communities. We firmly believe that by prioritizing equity, diversity, and inclusion in our urban forestry initiatives, we can empower these communities to actively participate in decision-making processes, receive the support they deserve, and gain equal access to the numerous benefits of urban trees.

Equitable urban forestry practices are not only essential for addressing historical and systemic disparities but also for fostering a sense of ownership and pride within communities. Our goal is to create spaces that promote social cohesion and enhance the overall quality of life for all residents.

By fostering a diverse workforce that includes arborists, foresters, and community engagement specialists from different backgrounds and cultures, we tap into a wealth of skills, perspectives, and cultural knowledge. By reflecting the communities we serve, we build trust, break down barriers, and foster meaningful collaboration.

Underrepresented populations, including people of color, women, and individuals from low-income backgrounds, have historically been excluded from the forestry sector. At OURCF, we are committed to changing that. We actively create pathways for participation and leadership in urban forestry, ensuring that diverse voices and experiences shape the policies, practices, and projects that drive our work.

OURCF firmly believes that equity, diversity, and inclusion are not just ideals but fundamental principles that guide our urban forestry initiatives. By embracing DEI, we address historical inequities, engage communities in decision-making processes, and create sustainable and thriving urban forest environments throughout Southern Oregon. Together, we can build a more just and equitable future, where every Oregonian, regardless of their background, can enjoy the countless benefits that trees and green spaces provide.

      • Our Vision for 2030

We aim to expand our impact across Southern Oregon by increasing equitable access to trees, creating workforce development opportunities, and strengthening community collaboration. Our work focuses on creating climate-resilient neighborhoods, restoring urban forests, and ensuring that the benefits of trees are available to everyone. Our strategic priorities include:

        Educate & Empower Our Community

Through internships, workforce training, and hands-on educational opportunities, we will prepare the next generation of urban forestry professionals and community leaders. Our programs will create pathways into arboriculture, forestry, nursery production, GIS, and environmental stewardship.

        Expand & Protect Urban Canopy

We aim to increase tree canopy in communities that need it most by planting and caring for climate-resilient trees, prioritizing neighborhoods vulnerable to extreme heat and environmental inequities. At the same time, we will work to preserve and protect existing trees that provide critical ecological, economic, and community benefits.

Create a Circular Urban Forestry Economy

We will maximize the value of urban forest resources by repurposing wood and green waste into mulch, compost, biochar, and other beneficial products. Through innovative and regenerative practices, we will demonstrate how urban forestry can support both environmental sustainability and local economic resilience.

        Strengthen Community Collaboration

We will support schools, municipalities, nonprofits, and community organizations with planning, technical assistance, and urban forestry resources. By levergaing our community's existing efforts and resources, we will help build lasting local capacity to care for trees and green spaces.
