Oregon Peace Trees
One Sunny Day Initiatives, the Oregon Department of Forestry, Oregon Community Trees, OUR Community Forestry, and the Green Legacy Project collaborate to bring trees of peace to Oregonians.
The Oregon Peace Tree Project is a collaborative initiative that brings seedlings grown from trees that survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, to communities across Oregon.

These descendants of survivor trees are planted in public spaces as living symbols of resilience, remembrance, and hope. The project commemorates the events of August 6, 1945, while fostering education, reflection, and a shared commitment to peace, with the goal of ensuring that nuclear weapons are never used again.

Over 50 trees have already been planted in 35 communities across Oregon. A new generation of seedlings, grown from seeds planted in November 2023, is currently being cultivated at Plant Oregon Nursery, with plans to distribute them to even more communities throughout the state.
