        Payson Collins

Payson Collins born in Paradise, California, before moving to Yreka, CA to spend most of his younger years of life. After graduating from Ashland High School, he pursued studies at Boise State University but transitioned into the green industry to fully immerse himself in his passion for nature. Payson’s focus on native plant species and a deep love for tree species have been central to his work. In 2020, he earned Master Nursery Certification, which strengthened his expertise, and his dedication led to a nomination for Young Retailer of the Year in 2023.

Currently, Payson manages Valley View Nursery in Ashland, Oregon, where he has worked since 2018. His introduction to urban forestry came through serving on the Talent Urban Forestry Committee, where he developed a strong understanding of the complexities within our urban forests. Through his work and knowledge of nature, Payson has gained a keen awareness of the problems facing urban green spaces. He finds great satisfaction in identifying and addressing these challenges, knowing that solving them contributes to the betterment of the environment and his community. Growing up in a construction-focused family instilled in him a strong work ethic and a practical approach to problem-solving, which he applies daily to his role.

Beyond his professional life, Payson is deeply connected to the outdoors. His hobbies include skiing, rafting, rock climbing, biking, and recently, venturing into the wilderness for species identification and witches' broom hunting. Nature has always been at the heart of his personal and professional pursuits.

For Payson, family, community, and the pursuit of what brings you joy are the foundations of happiness. He has a deep passion for helping those around him and believes that managing natural resources is a critical challenge. By working closely with the community, he aims to create a sustainable and thriving future for everyone.
